Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Christopher Wheeldon
A deviation from more classical ballets, this adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was first performed by the Royal Ballet in 2011. The ballet was devised by dramatist Nicholas Wright and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, who aimed to create a lighter and friendlier production than the company is usually accustomed to. Now, this production of Lewis Carroll’s peculiar children’s story will be performed by the National Ballet of Japan in co-production with the Australian Ballet. Delightfully quirky throughout, it’s impossible not to be charmed by this ballet as dancers are given the freedom to bring the colourful characters to life through expression of movement and dramatisation.
